July 17th, Day 29: Sioux Falls, SD to Worthington, MN: 70 miles, 1022 ft. ascent

Yesterday evening our disgraced co-author, Mr Heggie, picked him self up and set out on his new career as a roving reporter. His first mission was to investigate public transport in rural America by taking the overnight Greyhound from Sioux Falls to Chicago.

In the meantime, James Owers has stepped seamlessly into Heggie’s shoes and navigated Genevieve flawlessly through our 70 mile ride to Worthington, MN at 15.7 mph. Shortly after the town of Brandon, where James had made creative use of the sidewalk to avoid some unpleasant traffic, a patrol car pulled up ahead of us. Fortunately we had just crossed the state border and the officer was only interested in snapping photos of Genevieve and her two unlikely riders passing through his patch, which did not of course include Brandon.

Stop Press: This morning Heggie wired the office to report that Greyhounds are neither as enjoyable nor as reliable as Genevieve. After a horrible night he missed his connection and has now resorted to air transportation to complete his journey to Chicago.
